Pinky-200x300Filipina artist, Pinky Amador, is here in Sydney to participate in a creative development workshop for a theatre project called Filipino–Australian Migration Stories (working title). While she is here, Ms. Amador will also headline a fundraising event Songs From The Heart, which will benefit the long–term disaster management work of the Philippine Red Cross.

Pinky Amador’s experience as a multi–awarded actor and singer on stage, television and film, spans across almost three decades in the United Kingdom (most notably as part of the original cast of “Miss Saigon” in London) and the Philippines. Pinky trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and is currently the Department Head of Theatre Arts at MINT College in the Philippines.
The theatre development that Ms. Amador will be participating in, explores Filipino cultural identity in an Australian context. There are many layers to the stories, whether it’s a story from a first or second generation Filipino–Australian or a recent arrival. It’s a collection of poignant, amusing and honest observations of life as Australians of Filipino heritage, and is essentially every Australian migrant’s story.
After the initial production Aussies of the Magic Mic and Adobo Kind for Sydney Fringe Festival 2011, this new theatre development is aimed at a wider audience and hopes to propel the migration story further, not just for Filipino–Australians but for all Australians from a culturally diverse heritage. This project is an important story to add to Australia’s already rich cultural narrative.
Filipino–Australian Migration Story is every Filipino–Australian’s story and it’s going to take the whole community to bring this story to life!
